Risen from the ashes

Blimey it's been such a long time since I last updated! I haven't abandoned my space just yet, but I have been so busy you would not believe! Anyway, hopefully I'm back now, though I won't be updating as frequently as I used to. I've lost all the work I did for the next post I was going to do, so whilst I re-do all of that, is their any requests for specific posts? Do let me know and I'll get right on it!

Thanku all so much for the comments I have had whilst being away! There are so many!! I'm still reading through them! I will try and get started on the hundreds of requests I have had for banners and tables sometime in the very near future lol!

"Red is the new libertine . . . Dior is the new erotica"

Bit of a long post this one... Just a round up of the Couture shows gracing the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week...

PARIS — John Galliano sent out his models in skirts splashed with fake blood and painted skeletons, with crosses round their necks, to the sound of whips and clanking chains in a dramatic opening to Paris Fashion Week on Monday.
"Red is the new libertine . . . Dior is the new erotica," read the blood-red information sheet handed out at Christian Dior's spring-summer 2006 haute couture collection.
The models had bleached white hair and dark rims painted around their eyes. One had "1789" tattooed on her neck, the year of the French revolution. Another wore an ecru dress with a huge tulle skirt stamped with the revolutionary slogan "liberté, égalité, fraternité."
The swashbuckling British designer himself appeared at the end of the show — set in a tent bathed in red at the Paris polo club — dressed in black leather and brandishing a fencing sword.
"It was magical," said Andre Leon Talley, American Vogue's editor at large. "I felt the power and the drama."
While Galliano's dramatic haute couture creations may be worn less by red-carpet clients than those of some other designers, his ideas are seen as trend-setters and are at the cutting edge of fashion.
"As I often say, it (haute couture) is our research centre," said Sydney Toledano, chief executive of Christian Dior Couture.
"That's where Galliano develops the concepts that will mark the season, which will be translated afterwards into ready-to-wear, into accessories, into all the products and all the campaigns," he said.
In the audience were scattered Middle Eastern royals who are potential clients for labels like Dior and actresses such as American Mischa Barton and Mónica Cruz, sister of Spanish star Penélope Cruz.
Several outfits were see-through or revealing to show off the structure of the dresses and the detailed embroidery that take skilled French fashion workers days to sew and stitch.
When Galliano presented his first Dior collection in 1996, critics were sceptical of his brash style. But Toledano says this has now translated into profits.
"When John first joined . . . certain people were a bit skeptical, but since then the company has more than tripled its business figures," he said.
The drama of Dior contrasted with the red-carpet glamour at Giorgio Armani's Prive collection, the first show of the day.
"What I wanted to do was make women beautiful in front of a mirror," Armani told Reuters after the show.
Legendary Italian actress Sophia Loren applauded an ice-colored charmeuse cocktail dress with tangerine crinoline and organza frills. Suits and dresses sparkled with crystals and elegant lines.
"I love it," Loren said after sitting through a second showing of the collection.
Armani is famous for outfitting actresses at award shows such as the Cannes Film Festival coming up in May.
"I thought it was a lot sexier than normal. Incredibly high shoes and some beautifully cut red-carpet dresses. He really understands his market," said Hilary Alexander, London Daily Telegraph fashion editor.

Vote, Sugar, Vote!

And yet another poll for you all to vote in because I have had such a good response for the last two I posted!!!

Though I can't believe for a while, you lot were more in favour of a man in pink being wrong!!! I love it! I'm not talking about full on over the top pink outfits. I wouldn't even go as far as the hot pink t-shirt that Lee Ryan sported at T4's Pop Beach. Just nice hints... Think Jude Law in Alfie... In that gorgeous pink shirt... Mmmmm! If a bloke can carry pink off, then I reckon it's DEAD SEXY!!

Fashion Facts

Another fashion article I came across, which I thought was quite interesting...

Pricing
Less than 40 percent of all clothing is sold at full price. Some stores mark up so they can mark down.

Fashion "mistakes" — bad ideas in the first place — are the first to go on sale and those are often the best deals — as much as 80% off! Another secret — some stores even create items that immediately go on sale at 50% off.
Beware: What you may not know is that items that were made to sell at 50% off are usually lower quality.

Dry Clean Only?
To minimize those returns, many manufacturers put "dry-clean only" labels on virtually everything they make!
The misconception: Dry cleaning is always easier on a garment. That's not true — even dry cleaners agree the process isn't right for everything!

Who Says Size Doesn't Matter?
By now many people know that one designer's size 12 is another's size 8. Catalog sizes tend to be bigger than store sizes, because the catalog companies know that shoppers are less likely to return clothes that are a little too big — while they will almost always return clothes that are too small.
Outlet Stores — Designers at Discounts?
Many of the clothes you find at outlet stores are made specifically for that store, and the designers sometimes use cheaper fabric to maximize their profit. So if you think you're saving 40 to 50%, think again! Designers do sprinkle a small percentage of the current season's fashions in outlet stores, but that is just another part of the illusion. The really good, trendy stuff helps sell the ordinary things that masquerade as markdowns.

The 7 Deadly Shopping Sins

The 7 Deadly Shopping Sins

* Wearing lace-up shoes--you'll double your time in the changing room.

* Spending more than you should on trendy items. If you absolutely must have that silver lame blouse, set a limit before you get to the store.

* Buying on impulse just because something is on sale.

* Using a credit card when you can spare the cash.

* Shopping without a list, even if it's just in your head.

* Looking like a schlump when you shop. If you don't put some effort into your hair and makeup, you'll feel like nothing looks good on you.

* Shopping with your boyfriend. Why torture one another?

--------------------------

I saw this on a random fashion website somewhere and thought it would be cool to post. Going by this I am DEFINITELY a sinner! Though I rarely wear lace up shoes. So in that sins place I'd put never wear heeled shoes! Though, I never wear heeled shoes either! I'm addicted to my Reef flip-flops at the moment! Wheres the fun in not buying on impulse! And no way do I go shopping with a list! And I always look good! lol. Soooo damn stylish! Hmmm shopping with a boyfriend. Or any other boy for that matter! Most of them just moan like hell!

Child abuse must stop.

I saw this on another blog and it made me cry, so I wanted to add it because I hate cruelty to children.

Child abuse must stop!

My name is Sarah

I am but three,

My eyes are swollen

I cannot see,

I must be stupid

I must be bad,

What else could have made

My daddy so mad?

I wish I were better

I wish I weren't ugly,

Then maybe my mummy

Would still want to hug me.

I can't speak at all

I can't do a wrong

Or else I'm locked up

All the day long.

When I awake

I'm all alone

The house is dark

My folks aren't home

When my mommy does come

I'll try and be nice,

So maybe I'll get just

One whipping tonight.

Don't make a sound!

I just heard a car

My daddy is back

From Charlie's Bar.

I hear him curse

My name he calls

I press myself

Against the wall

I try and hide

From his evil eyes

I'm so afraid now

I'm starting to cry

He finds me weeping

He shouts ugly words,

He says its my fault

That he suffers at work.

He slaps me and hits me

And yells at me more,

I finally get free

And I run for the door.

He's already locked it

And I start to bawl,

He takes me and throws me

Against the hard wall.

I fall to the floor

With my bones nearly broken,

And my daddy continues

With more bad words spoken.

"I'm sorry!", I scream

But its now much too late

His face has been twisted

Into unimaginable hate

The hurt and the pain

Again and again

Oh please God, have mercy!

Oh please let it end!

And he finally stops

And heads for the door,

While I lay there motionless

Sprawled on the floor

My name is Sarah

And I am but three,

Tonight my daddy

Murdered me.

Copy and paste this in to your spaces and let people know child abuse is wrong.

The Best and Worst Dressed of 2005

Thought it was about time I wrote up a proper fashion post as I have been a little distracted lately. And what better way to kick off, than with the Official Best and Worst Dressed Women of 2005...

We all know Kate Moss has had a bit of a rough year, but she'll take comfort in knowing she's looked top edge through all of it, as she claims the title of 2005's Best Dressed Woman. Beating the likes of Scarlett Johanssen, Sienna Miller and Gwen Stefani, proving she can and will bounce back from whatever is thrown in her direction.

1. Kate Moss

2. Scarlett Johansson

3. Sienna Miller

4. Gwen Stefani

5. Nicole Kidman

6. Angelina Jolie

7. Kirsten Dunst

8. Jennifer Aniston

9. Keira Knightley

10. Victoria Beckham

AND ohhhhh the shame of being on the Worst Dressed list...

1. Britney Spears

2. Mary-Kate Olsen

3. Jessica Simpson

4. Eva Longoria

5. Mariah Carey

6. Paris Hilton

7. Anna Nicole Smith

8. Shakira

9. Lindsay Lohan

10. Renee Zellweger

Well. Most of the Best Dressed I do agree with. Though I would have like to have seen Sarah Jessica Parker grace at least the top 7. Victoria Beckham could do with being a little further up (most of you will disagree with this I know, but she has all her connections in the right places... D&G, Roberto Cavalli... it's all good).

Moving swiftly onto the Worst...  Britney definitely deserves to be no.1. Having a baby is no excuse for some of the things she has been darkening the streets wearing. And as for some of the rest (no.2 Mary-Kate??? logical? Ok so she's not a great dresser, but surely there are worse?), I can think of a few people worse. Whoever came up with this list must not have seen the trash that Jordan wears! Hmmm. I might be biased cuz I reckon she rocks, but NO WAY does Paris deserve to be shamed on the fashion list.

Well thats a couple of my opinions... now how about yours! Anyone you thing deserves to be on either list? Let me know!!

Project Catwalk

projectcatwalk.gif

"Project Catwalk is an exciting new prime-time series for Sky One hosted by Elizabeth Hurley. The show gives twelve talented and hungry fashion designers the opportunity of a lifetime - a chance to have their collection shown at London Fashion Week. In addition one winner will be given a cash prize courtesy of £20,000 courtesy of Tecni.art styling products, a mentorship with the Top Shop design team and a spread in Elle Magazine.

Across the series the designers competed in a series of challenges that tested a broad range of skills. These have determined if they have what it takes to cut it in the highly competitive fashion industry. At the end of each challenge a designer was eliminated, ultimately leaving three to show at London Fashion Week. Of those three, one will win the top prize and claim their place in fashion's spotlight.

Twelve up-and-coming models joined the designers on their journey. Like the designers, the models faced weekly eliminations. Of the three remaining models one will emerge from the pack and grace the pages of Elle magazine in the winning designer’s clothes. Our models come from top agencies including Select, ICM, Premier and Models 1.

Project Catwalk is a hip and entertaining series that will break fashion's next big name."
